History of the Italian Ape

(pronounced ah-pay)

The ape was first introduced in Italy in 1948, following World War II.  The original ape (or VespaCar) was designed as a work vehicle with a flatbed across the rear. The VespaCar received the nickname “ape” for buzzing sound it made travelling through the roads of small Italian villages. While apes are still frequently seen in Europe, they are less common in the US often used as food trucks and coffee carts.  Their small design makes it easy for them to be used in a variety of settings and make great attractions at events.
